What’s your WHY?

Identify your WHY

What is your WHY?

Have you ever been given an assignment at work, or started working on a project and lost interest halfway through? I have.

I bet whoever gave you the assignment or the project didn't give you a strong WHY they wanted you to do it.

If someone is given a task, but doesn’t understand or believe in WHY they are doing the task, most people will do just enough to complete the task. I have.

I bet if you were given a task AND understood and believed in the WHY, you would put a lot more effort into the task. You would find a way to complete the task(s), not only to “check the box” but to be proud of what you accomplished.

The stronger the WHY, the more likely you are to accomplish the task(s).

The same is true with Personal Finance.

But instead of someone else telling you the WHY, you have to come up with AND believe your own WHY.

WHY do you want to be better at personal finance?

WHY do you want to make a change?

WHY do you want to get out of debt?

Below are 2 examples of a WHY. Which is the stronger WHY?

Example 1: I want to get get out of student loan debt, so I don’t don’t have to pay [Insert Student Loan Company here] each month.

Example 2: I want to get out of debt, so that I can build wealth, retire early, and donate to causes I believe in.

Which example motivates you?

A strong WHY sets a direction.

You can always refer back to your WHY if you ever get off track.

Once you have a strong WHY, you can start setting goals and milestones to help you achieve your WHY.
