I want to see you succeed with your personal finances
About Me
My name is Mike Hernandez. I am a Ramsey certified Financial Coach.
I started my personal finance journey in 2018, which is much later than I should have. Prior to 2018, I didn’t have a financial roadmap.
I dove into personal finance in 2018, read as personal finance books, listened to podcasts, and started getting my finances in order.
I have combined my passion of personal finance and my passion for helping people to develop this site.
My goal is to help people get out of debt and build wealth, so that they can gain financial freedom, retire with dignity, and live the life they want, without having to worry about debt.
Building on the Ramsey Baby Steps, I hope to help get you there.
Like most, I didn’t learn about personal finance in elementary school, high school, or college. I grew up with a basic education around money. Personal finance was not talked about in my house, other than knowing to spend less than you make and save your money.
I had a credit card in college, because “you need to build credit.” I graduated with student loan debt, and got my first job out of college. And like most, I accumulated a few more credit cards and credit card debt along the way.
As a young professional in my mid 20s, I went out with friends on the weekends (paid with credit cards), went out to lunch each day (paid with credit cards), went on vacation (paid with credit cards), bought a new car because I could afford the payments, and didn’t invest in my company’s retirement plan (for 3 years). I was paying everyone else at the end of the month, except for myself.
My “Aha moment” occurred in my 30’s. My father had a stroke, and I had to get his finances in order. In the process, I realized that he had $0 in retirement, and received a minimal pension of $550 per month! The man who I had watch go to work each day, had $0 to show for it in retirement. His plan was to work until he couldn’t work anymore.
I took a serious look finances. After 10 years of working, my net worth was less than my yearly salary! I had credit card debt (I played the credit card game and would open and transfer balances to the zero interest cards), a mortgage, next to no emergency fund, no budget, and NO PLAN.
I dove into personal finance head first. I needed a plan. I read the books, listened to the podcasts, read more books, listened to more podcasts.
In 4 years, I paid off $163,000 in debt, built a fully funded emergency fund of 6 months expenses, and invested in my retirement.
I achieved Financial Freedom.
Now, I want to help you achieve Financial Freedom.
